Bringing Fun & Friends to Your Home in COVID-19
As we start the new year isolated and away from friends, it is very easy to feel lonely. Most of us are spending our whole day alone in our rooms staring at a computer screen. We miss being with our friends at lunch, collaborating on assignments, and waving hello in the halls. So, to bring some normalcy to our online lives, here are some ways to still feel close to our friends and JCHS community even though we are physically very far away:
Bring stuffed animal and dolls
Our JCHS friends may not be able to be with us in class, but we can certainly bring back ones from our childhood. Not only are stuffed animals and dolls great company, they also don’t make any noise or cause distractions. You can place them next to you on any Zoom call or independent work and you will immediately feel less alone.
Every day is a Spirit Day!
Another way to feel energized and excited about Zoom school is to create personal Spirit Days. You can decide on a new and creative theme for each day of the week. This way you will be too busy making costumes and having fun that you won’t have time to miss your friends. Additionally, If everyone brings their personal spirit to the Zoom classrooms then it will help you feel connected even at a distance.
One-minute jumping jacks in the middle of class.
This activity is something that all of your friends can do with you over Zoom. Organize a time with each student in your class to randomly have one minute of exercise. This will help bring some fun and bonding energy into the Zoom class environment and will definitely give your teacher a good laugh.
Pictures of friends next to you
Lastly, if you are missing your friends, bring pictures of your them to class. Having funny or memorable pictures of your friends will help you feel like you are surrounded by the people you love. Instead of being sad because you are not with them, you will be reminded of the fun memories you have shared when we actually went to school and know that they are still there for you.
