The Jewish Community High School of the Bay recently wrapped up a fall sports season filled with record-breaking achievements, personal bests, and plenty of community spirit.

Leading the way was the varsity boys soccer team, who put together the best season in program history. The team finished with a 13-5-3 record and made history by capturing the school's first ever boy’s soccer NCS Division 3 championship title. "I think it's incredible," said Athletics Director Sean Moler about the championship win.

Propelling the team forward was strong leadership from seniors Ethan Levine, Ari Cohen, Nathan Fell, Kauê Barth-Ramos and Davidi Aharon as well as breakout freshman star Sinai Bierman, who earned 2nd Team All-League honors. The title run was inspired in part by the girl’s soccer team’s championship in 2022. "I think that the boys were at that game, and I think that in many ways, that team from two years ago inspired this team," remarked Moler.

In another first, the school fielded its inaugural junior varsity boys soccer team this season. Though only competing in six games, the JV team made the most of it, finishing 3-1-2. Flexing players between JV and varsity provided valuable experience that should benefit the program for years to come.

While the girls volleyball program has endured some past struggles, this year’s team showed positive signs by winning several matches and demonstrating high levels of team camaraderie. Led by senior captains Dalia Rotberg and Mia Finestone, the team prioritized chemistry and positivity in laying a strong foundation for the next season. The future is bright with talent like Junior Lily Tuvi, who earned 2nd Team All-League honors.

At the conclusion of the season, student-athletes gathered for a sports banquet to celebrate their accomplishments. Some highlights included:

  • Inaugural recipient of the Top Sportsmanship Award:

    •  Mirabai Ari

  • All-League soccer selections:

    • 1st Team - Davidi Aharon, Ari Cohen, Miles Cooper, and Eitan Joselewitz

    • 2nd Team - Nathan Fell, Kauê Barth-Ramos, and Sinai Bierman;

    • Honorable Mention - Adam Gelfand

  • All-League volleyball selections:

    • 2nd Team - Lily Tuvi

    • Honorable Mention - Dalia Rotberg and Mia Finestone

With a renewed energy surrounding athletics, fan turnout has also seen a noticeable uptick. Students and parents alike appear excited to reconnect in-person and rally around the teams after two years of COVID restrictions. This sense of community and togetherness around a common purpose has been uplifting during uncertain times globally.

As we look ahead, the basketball season tips off with enthusiasm and optimism. The girls team is off to a strong start under new head coach Ray Wong, buoyed by an emerging sophomore star Raizel Mahgel-Friedman, who poured in 23 points in her first game. While the boys endure a rebuilding year, their young core of sophomores gained valuable experience that should pay dividends down the road.

After a fall full of athletic achievement, the Jewish Community High School enters the winter season proud of all our student-athletes contributing, competing, and representing the school. No matter the score, our teams consistently make us proud by demonstrating effort, sportsmanship, and community above all else.
