Five Fun Things To Do While Social Distancing

Five Fun Things To Do While Social Distancing

Everyone is sharing the same boredom of being stuck at home and not being able to everyday actives like go out with friends. Here are some fun activities I have been doing that make being self-quarantined a little more bearable!

  1. Bake Cookies or a Cake!

Baking is a great way to explore your creative side and know exactly what's going into your food. When I bake, I like to listen to podcasts or discover new music. So far, I have made chocolate chip cookies and a vanilla cake. I really like making cake because I am not very artistically talented, but love to do art. Decorating a cake lets me exercise that muscle.

My favorite cookie recipe (I use the whole bag of chocolate chips and no nuts):

2. Tie-dye!

I always assumed that tie-dye was only for the Shabbaton, but it turns out anyone can do it! I bought Rita brand dye and found some old white shirts, sweats, and hoodies and gave them a new life. I played around with mixing colors and shapes. Urban outfitters sells tie-dye sweats for $100, but my dye alone was only $4 and I thrifted the sweats I used a little while ago for $1.99.

3. Make Your Own Coffee or Tea!

I have been missing going to Starbucks with my friends from school so I learned some new recipes. The first thing I learned was how to make matcha. I whipped matcha powder with water and poured it over iced oat milk. I then learned how to make coffee with designs on it. I make hot coffee (I use Philz grounds), pour frothy milk over, and then I cut out the shape I want in paper, place it over the milk, sift cinnamon over the milk, and remove the shape to see it in the negative space.

4. Get Some Fresh Air! Go Biking!

It's really important to get outside and get moving when social distancing. My family and I have been teaching my 5-year-old sister how to ride a bike. On Sundays, Golden Gate Park closes from approx. 4th ave to 8th ave. It's a great place to learn a new skill like biking, skating, or just keep practicing. In addition, Blackie’s Pasture in Marin is a beautiful flat route to bike or have a picnic.

5. Learn Tik Tok Dances, Binge-Watch Dance Moms, or Find Ways To Interact With Friends Online!

I have been watching a lot of TikTok during this time. Usually, I watch mostly comedy TikToks but over break, I decided to teach myself some of the dances. Spoiler: I’m no Charli D’Amelio.  In addition, I have been watching my biggest guilty pleasure show, Dance Moms. Dance Moms is one of those shows I never get the chance to watch because the episodes are really long and it's such a trashy show usually I feel bad watching it, but now I have literally nothing better to do. Lastly, I have been playing an online version of the show “Survivor” organized by Simona Lewis. It is a great way to stay in contact with some of my school friends in a fun and competitive way.

Hope you try out some of these activities and have fun! Enjoy :)
