Day Four Recap: Grade Color Day
The last day of events, before scores are tallied and the winners are revealed tomorrow, certainly did not disappoint!
With the Commons decorations set to be judged immediately after tefillah, many people arrived at school extra early to put the finishing touches on what can only be described as the culmination of a week’s work of decorating. All grades did an amazing job transforming their corners into their own. The attention to detail and thoroughness made stepping into each one an immersive experience, and it truly felt like you were being transported into another world, whether it was made of orange, purple, red, or green.

After morning classes, it was time for the big spirit week events that make up a majority of the points: the skit and song performances. As mentioned in today’s preview, the theme was “JCHS celebrates a holiday, but the school needs to unite to create enough school spirit!” The Freshmen started it all off with an entertaining story about trying to find their lost Thanksgiving turkey, eventually finding out that it hadn’t even been cooked and subsequently throwing it away. They then performed their song to the tune of “Party in the USA” about finding their way in their new home, JCHS.
The Sophomores ran with the holiday of Pesach, sneaking in a hilarious line about God posting an assignment to Google Classroom titled “Free The Jews” which Moses (Amitai Bearman ‘25) found to be a difficult task. Their song was primarily about their desire to paint the gnome purple.
The Juniors brought Purim early to JCHS, perhaps to make up for the Purim that they will miss for their Israel trip. Their skit even included a featured appearance from Drake (Edward Bennett ‘24), who swooped in when all looked bleak and saved the holiday. Then, with the help of Meir Ross (‘24) playing the piano, they launched into their rendition of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away”.
The Seniors finished off the performances with a wonderful story about the magic of New Year’s Eve, sharing some of their resolutions, enjoying time with friends, and cracking jokes at many teachers’ expense. They ended the assembly like only they could, giving the other grades a show to watch as they sang their song “Best Class Ever” (a parody of One Direction’s “Best Song Ever”), which included an incredible lighting display and a masterclass in rapping by Natan Geller (‘23).
At lunch the final four games took place, and each grade claimed victory in one of them. The Freshmen were the winners of the Go Fish tournament with the 10th graders taking a close second. Elana Maidenberg (‘25) managed to lead the Sophomores to a win in the Paper Airplane Toss, even in somewhat windy conditions. The new 4 square competition was claimed by Tovi Karson (‘24) with Daniel Eybelman (‘25) taking second place. Of course, it was the Seniors that ended spirit week on a high note as they wound up destroying the competition in the headline Tug-Of-War event.

Now all that is left is the big reveal, tomorrow at lunch, of who will get to paint the gnome this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone in their relaxed pajama outfits tomorrow, and as always, may the best grade win.
