Day One Recap: Decades Day
What a start to this year’s spirit week! A day full of festivities, intense competition, and some big surprises.
It all started early in the morning as the students and ProCom strolled into school dressed in their best decades day outfits. Hippies from the 60’s, leather jackets from the 50’s, 80’s disco outfits, and many more stocked the hallways. Just by looking around it felt as though you could find any decade represented.

The real competition began at Hakhel with the divrei torah. Fabulous speeches were made in which Theo Cohen (‘26), Lyla Randell (‘25), Bear Mahgel Friedman (‘24), Josh Marx (‘24), and Yoni Aharon (‘23) were all able to connect this week’s parsha to their grade’s colors, desires, and belief in winning spirit games.
Dylan Snow(‘23), Davidi Aharon (‘24), Elana Maidenberg (‘25), and Callie Makunas (‘26) compete in the cup stacking competition
Immediately after the last dvar torah, the games began. Cup stacking ended in a victory for the 10th graders, while the 11th graders nabbed the pin the nose on the wolf crown. Hakhel finished off with an intense Limbo competition where Ever Keegstra (‘26) walked away as the eventual winner but not after a hard fought tiebreaker between her, Gaby Galinson (‘23), and Tamara Lowenstein (‘24).

It took until lunch for the seniors to grab their first win this year when Jonah Levie (‘23) and Aaron Smith-Russack (‘23) finished with Hungry, Hungry, Hippos with a decisive victory.
Before the scores for the divrei torah were tallied, it was surprisingly the freshman who held a slim lead, after winning musical chairs and the NYT Spelling Bee, and placing second in cookie face. However once all the points had been correctly allocated, it was the sophomores who finished in first place by a margin of 40 points. What a fun day this was! Stay tuned for updates on tacky tourist day tomorrow!
