THE OBSERVER IS THE JEWISH COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL OF THE BAY’S STUDENT NEWS SOURCE.
As everyone is working from home in self-isolation, we’d like to make The Observer a place where JCHS students can feel connected and informed on a regular basis. If you’d like to get involved in our digital community in any way, we invite you to contribute anything from articles and crossword puzzles, to memes and short films, to playlists and movie recommendations—you can even start your own podcast!
In the time since we left the JCHS building, we on the Observer team feel that although we may not miss our early morning alarms, we definitely miss JCHS’s warm and welcoming sense of community. Likely, many of you feel the same way. Little interactions with teachers in the hallways, conversations with friends in the Commons, and seeing the same familiar faces every day are all moments that cannot be replaced when we are restricted to our homes.
Although we are spread across the Bay Area—in different cities, neighborhoods, and houses—we are going through a shared experience, one that has the potential to strengthen the bonds of our JCHS community. We are blessed to live in an era where technology ensures that physical isolation doesn’t limit us from conversing, interacting, and growing closer.
We feel this is a special time for The Observer, JCHS’s student news source, to step into its role as a center of our digital community. We have already uploaded numerous articles, all written by different JCHS students since we departed 1835 Ellis Street in mid-March. We have recommendations for movies and TV shows to enjoy; playlists to vibe to; tips and tricks to thrive in these trying times; student recipes, meme compilations, and other ways to keep your spirits up as we all go through this together. In the coming weeks, look out for a podcast, interview videos, and more reviews and recommendations on http://jchsobserver.com/. Many of us also have more time on our hands, and we’re always looking for new contributors!
