JCHS Staff Show Creative Side at Professional Community Coffeehouse
Members of the JCHS community got a chance to see their teachers, coaches, and security guards show off their many talents outside of a classroom setting at the Professional Community Coffeehouse on Thursday evening. The evening was gracefully emceed by Student Life Program Manager Maria Lipkina, and featured JCHS staff members from all departments coming together to put on an amazing night of performances.
Highlights included Ms. Ullman’s Irish tap routine, a poetry reading from Ms. Ben-David, an eleven-teacher cooperative improv piece, and moving musical performances from Officer Rudy Dumandan, Coach Bernard, Mr. White, Ms. Krieger, Mz. Schrek, Dr. Feltman, and Mr. Brody. Dr. Grigoryan and Ms. Monticue performed a three-instrument, two-voice, calculus ballad of determination called “I Will Derive” (to the tune of Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 classic). Sarah Kaplan ’20 says that, as a student of both Dr. G. and Ms. Monticue, she “very much related to the calculus struggle.” Seniors Didi Miller ’20 and Ashira Bloom ’20 noted an appreciation for the wordplay and audience participation in Rabbi Wolgel’s alliterative self-written song “The Man in the Mountain.”
Overall, the evening was a fulfilling moment of community bonding. It was also an opportunity to see the adults of JCHS as talented, interesting, real-life people with passions and personalities that extend far beyond the boundaries of the JCHS campus. Don’t forget to buy tickets to see your friends show off their own talents at the JCHS Student Coffeehouse coming up on March 5!
