Welcome to the JCHS Fashion Corner, the JCHS Observer section that will cover all things clothing. We are your anchors, Joshua and Sasha, and we are here to report on the latest fashion trends making the rounds at 1835 Ellis St.

Fighting to keep the title of JCHS best dressed is Mr. Wolk, whose patterned suits will have you asking if you just walked into the Jewish Studies offices or a Vogue menswear photoshoot. He faces fierce competition in Ms. Dean’s copious collection of sweaters and, for the first time, a student is going for the title: enter Tamara Lowenstein (‘24) – legend has it that she’s never worn the same outfit twice! Facing off for a slightly less competitive title – best bell bottoms – are Ms. Beck, Ms. Levinson, and Mirabai Ari (‘24). Who will take the title? Only time will tell!

Back in the Humanities office, Ms. Cornelius’ style continues to prove impossible to pin down – one day giving us the co-manager of a slightly avant-garde art gallery, another day an environmentally-conscious cat café owner (she wants to open another location, but can’t find enough domestic cats). In a world where everything is always changing, we are grateful for shreds of consistency – and Mr. Gindi serves it to us with his assortment of button-down plaid shirts. He has the power to turn any JCHS hallway into a catwalk!

NEW TREND ALERT! Watch out for chic circular skullcaps, seen most commonly in the mornings outside the library. Sometimes paired with a white-fringed shawl with blue stripes, this bold fashion statement is sure to turn heads. And, as usual, JCHS swag reigns supreme – from socks to scarves, kippot to crewnecks. Hey, Admissions Office, maybe we could get some JCHS-branded mink coats as the temperature drops?

Our favorite pieces of the season: Ms. Rubin’s blue jacket, Ms. Alouf’s vintage JCHS hoodie, Dr. G’s watermelon hat, Shaina’s (‘24) butterfly belt.

Ins and Outs of the season:

In: magenta, denim, sustainably-sourced wool, shoulders, polka dots, being extra

Out: pink, plastic, flip-flops, unsustainably-sourced wool, minimalism

Thanks for your time. Next up, Joshua and Sasha catch a flight to Paris to interview some bedbugs! Apparently, they're wearing berets now…
