Knesset's Year Ahead

Knesset's Year Ahead

Knesset held its elections for rashim (grade representatives) two weeks ago and we now have a full Knesset. While the executive board has been working together since the middle of summer, meeting as a full Knesset for the first time was exciting. Knesset has been a core part of my experience at JCHS, as I have been a rosh every year up to this point and am now serving a term as president. As Knesset president this year, my goal is not only to make Knesset as meaningful as it has been for me to the other Knesset members, but to allow Knesset to have a significant impact on the entire school community.

We’re living in a world full of unknowns, now more than ever before, and while the JCHS community is spread throughout the Bay Area, we will continue to connect throughout the year. As president, it is my goal to keep our school’s community as strong as possible. To initiate this, each pair of rashim is currently working on events designed to help their grade bond with each other. While seniors already had “Senior Sunrise,” other grades haven’t necessarily had time to reconnect since the year started.

Knesset is also looking to bring Fall and Winter events to life virtually starting with Color Games. While Color Games has typically taken place as a one week event right before Winter break, to increase school spirit and community, Color Games events will take place on a bi-weekly basis on Fridays at Hakhel. In addition, Knesset is going to be expanding and adding Cabinets. These Cabinets will consist of students who are committed to helping their rashim plan and run events, but with less of a time commitment than being a full time rosh.

What else is in store for Knesset this year? It’s hard to say. With so many variables, Knesset is going to have to tackle things as they come. However, given the energy that the rashim brought to the first meeting, I think we all have reason to be optimistic about what lies ahead.
